Last week Al and I headed to Cheltenham in the Cotswolds for a little break away. We chose to stay at a hotel that I’ve been eyeing up on Instagram for a while now, The 131 by The Lucky Onion. If you haven’t heard of The Lucky Onion before, they are a hotel/inn/pub group in the Cotswolds. No 131 is a stunning 5 star townhouse in central Cheltenham, it’s a restaurant with rooms rather than a hotel and Al and I like that. We prefer somewhere that’s a little more relaxed and casual to stay with good food at the heart of everything they do – and oh my, their food was DELISH! The bedrooms were quirky, stylish and just perfect. We loved ours so so much. We did peak into a few of the other rooms when they were open and its safe to say all of their rooms are full of character!
Al and I have to try every burger on every menu everywhere we go, and No 131’s burger from their lunch menu won us over, it has become our favourite burger!
In the basement of No 131 is their bar, The Crazy 8’s – It is the coolest bar I have EVER been too – It’s all wooden with a massive wine cellar and the quirkiest features.
Cheltenham itself, is a beautiful little town with trees in golden, red and orange hues lining the streets with bakeries, shops, cafes and bars. Opposite the hotel was a beautiful park/gardens with benches, water fountain and gorgeous, seasonal blooms everywhere.
We wandered the local streets and town, did a little shopping and drove to a few local villages to discover cool little nooks, a church where Tolkien gathered inspiration for part of Lord of the Rings which was super cool, we took long walks around the countryside, chilled in local cafes, pubs and bakeries and generally ate a lot of tasty food (as you will see) and just had the best time spending time together, not thinking about work.
We honestly fell in love with Cheltenham and the Cotswolds and can’t wait to go back!
Below are a selection of photographs from our stay – Enjoy!
